The Level of Gibberellic Acid and Abscisic Acid - Like Substances in Rosa Multiflora Seeds as Affected by Low Temperature Treatment

Abstract
This study was carried out to find out the period of low temperature required for breaking dormancy in Rosa multiflora seeds and to detect and identify the change in plant growth substances as affected by low temperature treatment. The germination was promoted as the low temperature treatment prolonged. About 60 days were enough for breaking dormancy, but the effect of light on germination was not recognized. In ABA and GA-like substances, the former was decreased and increased in the latter according to the lengthening of the low temperature treatment. At the region of Rf .0- .1, an unknown inhibitor was detected, but an unidentified substance located at .2- .3 by TLC was decreased with more treatment period. These unknown substances were discussed in this report.
